There are a lot of great free software and web sites to aid in developing a Project Charter with your Client.

MIT has developed some great software and is a leader when it comes to managing a technical project. Check out their resources for get a project charter together. This will give you a good start on the tasks at hand. Another great software package is Project KickStart. It has a simple project wizard and will create a simple timeline with additional lists. This timeline can also be exported to MS Project. Another great tool for this session may be Visio.

You may want to also research the companies history with a few resources on-line. D&B has a great account. Another resource is Jupiter Research. These can get costly and require an account to retrieve detailed information.
